Fontainebleau Forest a splendid 25,000ha forest
 

Travel just a few miles outside of Barbizon to find the Fontainebleau Forest, which is popular with hikers, climbing enthusiasts and horseback-riders who can take advantage of the 1,100km of trails.  Follow the blue trail marked "Denecourt and Colinet"  to access the forest's most stunning sights, such as the Gorges de Franchard, the Elephant stone and other impressive viewpoints across the Bière region.

Barbizon village has many interesting sites.
 

While exploring Barbizon, do not miss the Auberge Ganne, established in 1822 and whose first customer was painter Théodore Caruelle from Aligny. The inn quickly became the meeting point of landscape artists who did not hesitate to paint on the walls of the inn, both interior and exterior. Today, the former inn serves as the Barbizon School Museum where you can view original paintings from this period.

The Palace of Fontainebleau
 

Located just ten kilometers from Barbizon, you will find the magnificent Chateau Fontainebleau. Napoleon described Chateau de Fontainebleau as "The true dwelling of kings, the house of the centuries." Explore the more than 1500 rooms and over 130 acres where 34 kings and 2 emperors lived spanning over 800 years. Included in the vast collection are a bed designed for Marie Antoinette and Napoleon Bonaparte's throne.
